SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
--------------------
Solar activity was very low. Current disk regions were
mostly stable or in slow decline.
Solar activity forecast: solar activity should be very
low to low for the next three days. Region 7730 (S11E37)
could produce an isolated C-class flare.
The geomagnetic field was quite variable during the
period. From 10/2100-11/0900Z, the field was quiet to
unsettled. From 0900-1200Z, mid latitudes experienced active to
minor storm conditions and some high latitude sites reached
severe storm levels. The remainder of the period was at
unsettled to active levels. Greater than 2 MeV fluxes were at
mostly moderate to high levels.
Geophysical activity forecast: the geomagnetic field
should be disturbed for the next three days due to a coronal
hole related high speed solar wind stream. Mostly active to
minor storm conditions are expected during local nighttimes.
Unsettled to active levels should be experienced during
daylight hours. Some high latitudes sites may experience
intervals of severe storming.
Event probabilities 11 jun-13 jun
Class M 01/01/01
Class X 01/01/01
Proton 01/01/01

Geomagnetic activity probabilities 11 jun-13 jun

B. High Latitudes
Active 40/40/40
Minor Storm 25/25/25

HF propagation conditions were near-normal to slightly
below-normal. High and polar latitude paths saw minor episodes
of signal degradation during the local night hours. Similar
conditions are expected over the next 72 hours. Signal fading
and occassional absorption may increase on 11 June before
conditions start improving again on 12 and 13 June.

All times are in Universal Time (UT). Characters preceding begin, max,
and end times are defined as: B = Before, U = Uncertain, A = After.
All times associated with x-ray flares (ex. flares which produce
associated x-ray bursts) refer to the begin, max, and end times of the
x-rays. Flares which are not associated with x-ray signatures use the
optical observations to determine the begin, max, and end times.
Acronyms used to identify sweeps and optical phenomena include:
II = Type II Sweep Frequency Event
III = Type III Sweep
IV = Type IV Sweep
V = Type V Sweep
Continuum = Continuum Radio Event
Loop = Loop Prominence System,
Spray = Limb Spray,
Surge = Bright Limb Surge,
EPL = Eruptive Prominence on the Limb.

This is frightening. Five years ago my my Ship Radio License for my sailboat
was free. A recent renewal notice says I owe the FCC $35. And next year
those renewing will pay over $100.
A new VHF marine radio, with all channels, can be bought for as little as
$135 (through West Marine Supply). The license is worth almost as much as
the radio.

The price of cliquish exclusivity? We got some Com-spec tone encoders for
$26 a piece. They can be programmed for 42hz to 125hz, all non standard
tones.
The repeater itself will be open with a standard 103.5 pl, but all
control, autopatch & crossbanding will only be accessable thru a non
standard pl below 67.0. If they can hack it then maybe they're worthy
of permission to use. There are so many plug 'n play hams out there that
i think as badly as they would want to get it, I dont think they'd trust
themselves opening their $600 radio to install something they know
nothing about. Besides, were calling it "DPL" anyways. Hopefully
they're as dumb as we think.
And what about 900Mhz? However, that would be pricy. But the
rif-raff up there would be history.. No more resetting.

Can someone in Florida confirm that some of your public safety agencies
use Q-signals? I was watching a documentary on TV and overheard some
radio traffic, possibly police or highway patrol, and heard `QSL' several
times. Weird.

I have no problems using the speaker out jack and using a "line level to
recorder level" attenuator to record with my boom box.
To avoid the problems of switching between speaker and recorder, I have
put the two together so I can record and listen on my speaker at the
same time (or record and turn off my speaker with a switch)

Jim's statement above should bring to an end the `440 in SoCal'
thread. Those are incredibly huge chunks of spectrum that need to be
put to use. When you consider the amount of unused spectrum we have
it really makes the 440 debate moot.
Can't readily *buy* a radio to play with up on those UHF freqs? Put your
amateur skills to use and *build* something for up there. [Roger: I'll
